Some 2,700 illegal immigrants from Tunisia have reached the Italian coast from January 1 till September 2017, Spokesman and Coordination Office for the Mediterranean of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Flavio Di Giacomo said in statements Friday.
Around 1,400 irregular migrants reached the Italian coast last September, recording a remarkable increase in the number of illegal migrants who have arrived in Italy for almost three years, he added.
Speaking at a training of trainers (ToT) session on good media practices in migration, Di Giacomo said hundreds of irregular migrants arrived in Italy the first days of October 2017, besides other irregular migrants who were not counted by the Italian naval brigades and managed to infiltrate into various regions in Italy.
According to the same source, the number of irregular migrants during the years 2016 and 2015 stood at 1,200 and 800, respectively.
