Abbas Reiterates Commitment to Peace Based on Two-state Solution
Berlin - Arab Today

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he is committed to the option of achieving a just and comprehensive peace according to the two-state solution and based on the 1967 borders by ending the occupation and reaching a permanent peace agreement so that Palestine and Israel would live side by side separated by secure and recognized borders.
Speaking during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Abbas highlighted Germany's role in coordinating international efforts to prepare institutions and infrastructure for the Palestinian state in line with the outputs of Paris international conference, pointing to the different financial, political and moral kinds of support that Berlin offers to Palestine.
Abbas said he and Merkel reviewed the current international efforts, most recently by the new U.S. administration, which aim to achieve comprehensive and just peace between the Palestinian and Israelis.
Merkel said she believes the establishment of a peaceful Palestinian state next to Israel is the best way to end the Middle East conflict despite all setbacks.
