Afghan troops waged an anti-narcotics operation and destroyed a large amount of drugs in southern Helmand province, said the command of Afghan Special Forces on Wednesday.
"On Monday, Afghan Special Operation Forces conducted an operation in surrounding areas of Helmand province, destroying a big amount of drugs," it said in a statement.
The destroyed drugs have been estimated at over 3 million U.S. dollars, according to the statement.
The destruction of the drugs was a heavy blow for Taliban insurgents and anti-government militants as they have been using profits from the illegal drugs to fund insurgency, the statement noted.
Much of the world's opium poppy is cultivated in Afghanistan, particularly in western and southern sides of the country, where government security forces have little presence.
Helmand, notorious for poppy growing, is also a known Taliban stronghold.
