President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that the Islamic Republic of Iran fully backs restoration of security and progress in Iraq. President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iraqi deputy chairman of Iraqi Kurdistan administration Nechirvan Barzani. Given historical and cultural affinities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, President Ahmadinejad said Iran calls for expansion of all-out cooperation with Iraq on mutual interests. President Ahmadinejad said that anyone who creates obstacles in the way of success and development of Iraq would be considered its enemies. He said that a developed and stable Iraq will be to the benefit of Iran as well as the entire region. President Ahmadinejad said that the future belongs to the nations in this region and by the time they remain united, the enemies never dare to take action against them. President Ahmadinejad said that common enemies of Iran and Iraq who have plundered the region for over a century are now seeking to mastermind new plots to create insecurity in the region. He said that it requires vigilance of all nations to thwart the conspiracy. Referring to recent developments in Libya, President Ahmadinejad said that the bullying powers seek to spend cost of their hegemonic adventurism from the wealth of the other countries and have currently focused on libya to plunder its wealth. He called on Libyan nation to take care of their national wealth from theft. The Iraqi official, on his part briefed the president on his country's situation and thanked Iran’s assistance to restore security and stability of Iraq. “We believe that regional problems should be settled down through contribution and assistance of countries in the region.” Iraq will oppose to any threat against Iran’s security, he said. He also thanked Iran’s assistance to the people of Iraqi Kurdistan province mainly in the wake of chemical attacks by Saddam Hussein on Halabja which claimed lives of several thousand people.
