National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi on Tuesday denied a US embassy report, recently disclosed by Wikileaks, claiming that he had withdrawn KD six million from the Central Bank of Kuwait for funding an electoral campaign. "This report is baseless and contained fabricated information, intended to spread rumors and discords," said Al-Kharafi, in a statement to KUNA. The speaker of the assembly (the Parliament) called on the CBK to react to the report, for its contents were alluded to "a source at the bank," and that should be for sake of "revealing the truth and the falsehood of the source." The report reflects the lack of credibility of such US diplomatic sources, upon which the State Department receives information -- though they may be based on rumors and hearsay, he added. The speaker called on the US State Department to check authenticity of basis of the information it receives from its sources. "US embassies should consider, in their reports, accuracy, objectivity, credibility, and not depend on rumors and hearsay," he re-stressed.
