London - Kuna

None of Kuwaiti citizens has been hurt in the recent wave of riots that happened throughout Britain, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United Kingdom Khaled Al-Duwaisan affirmed on Saturday. Al-Duwaisan indicated that the Kuwaiti citizens, who were present in Britain during the disturbances, cooperated with the embassy and followed its security precautionary advises. Some of the incidents took place near the Kuwaiti embassy and residents of Kuwaitis, but the diplomatic mission contacted the police and was assured that extraordinary precautions were enforced to protect the citizens and foreigners in the country, he said. The embassy has advised the nationals to abstain from venturing outdoor at night time and avert places notorious for violence. The police, two days after the disturbances escalated, deployed some 16,000 policemen in London, alone, in a measure that resulted in containing the tragic events, Al-Duwaisan said in a statement to KUNA and Kuwaiti Television. Cooperation that involved the embassy staff, other Kuwaiti representation offices, such as the cultural and health offices, in addition to continuous contacts with the Kuwaiti vistors, including patients and tourists, proved to be fruitful in terms of safeguarding the citizens' safety. The embassy set up a hotline to aid the Kuwaiti visitors and residents rapidly. The violent incidents took place at start of the fasting month of Ramadan, when most of the Kuwaiti students and tourists returned home. Currently, the health office is in touch with some 3,000 Kuwaiti citizens through the existing channels. The embassy had prepared a full rescue plan for the citizens, in coordination with Kuwaiti Airways and British Airways, the diplomat said, indicating that it was similar to the one, worked out during the volcanic ashes' crisis. Conditions in the UK have largerly restored normalcy. Up to 1,500 sabotuers and suspected trouble-makers have been nabbed.
