The Arab League Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Aboul Ghait today called on the international community to take urgent and effective action towards the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Syria's city of Aleppo.
Arab League said in a statement today that Dr. Aboul Ghait had sent messages on the situation in Aleppo to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), President of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Aboul Ghait explained, in the messages, the dimensions of the critical humanitarian situation faced by large numbers of civilians in the Syrian territories, especially in the city of Aleppo, the statement said.
People who chose to remain in Aleppo are facing difficult conditions after the destruction of infrastructure during the military operations, which threatens to further worsen the humanitarian and health situation of these people if they do not receive urgent relief assistance, it added.
Aboul Gheit called on organizations and bodies to immediately intervene in order to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Aleppo.
