The Director of the African Affairs department at the Arab League General Secretariat , has highly evaluated tireless and constant efforts the State of Qatar has been exerting for the relief and rescue of the Somali people, asserting meatime that Qatar was one of the first countries that took the lead to support the Somali people. Ambassador Samir Hosni said in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Friday that the State of Qatar was the first arab country and took the initiative to meet the respond for the call of duty for the relief of the Somali people at both official and popular levels through the qatari national charity socieites and institutions which play a growing and tremendous role in this regard. The Director of the African Affairs department further said in his statement to QNA ,"We highly appreciate the role of Qatar whether at the level of the state and the charitable societies , where such a role, in fact, has spurred and urged many other Arab countries to follow suit for the relief of our brothers in Somalia. " He made clear however that Qatar also played such a role not only in Somali but also in a number of other Arab countries and the countries of the Horn of Africa, either in the Comoros, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti. These countries were also affected by droughts and whose citizens were also subjected to starvation, Hosni added. Ambassador Samir Hosni pointed out that the State of Qatar has shown a real and rapid response to the appeal launched by the arab league secretary general Dr. Nabil al-Arabi on the first day he assumed his post for the relief of the Somali people, both through the Qatari Red Crescent , or through the Qatari humanitarian relief convoys.
