BAGHDAD - Arabstoday
Eleven bombs exploded Sunday in Baghdad, killing at least six people and injuring 53, Iraqi Interior Ministry officials said. Two car bombs and nine roadside bombs exploded within hours of each other in five different neighborhoods in the Iraqi capital, ministry officials said, according to the (CNN). The bombings are the latest in a series of attacks in Iraq in recent weeks that have again raised questions about Iraq's ability to protect itself when US troops withdraw by the end of the year. While violence has drastically declined in recent years, bombings have remained a near daily occurrence in the country. Sunday's blasts targeted a mix of civilians and Iraqi security officials, including a car bomb in eastern Baghdad that targeted an Interior Ministry officials convoy and a roadside bomb in the city center that targeted an Iraqi police patrol, officials said. The UN office in Iraq has expressed concern over recent violence targeting government and security officials. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has said al Qaeda and other terrorists are behind the killings but also has blamed political movements and security guards. He promised to pursue the attackers.
