The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an introductory meeting for Arab Ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain to shed light on Bahrain's candidacy for membership for the Human Rights Council of the United Nations in Geneva for the period 2019-2021, after receiving the support of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level and the endorsement of the Asia-Pacific group at the United Nations.

The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur al-Doseri gave a detailed explanation on Bahrain's candidacy for the membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2019-2021 in the elections scheduled for October in New York City.
He also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts and achievements, its candidacy programme and the voluntary pledges it submitted for the membership of the Council in order to protect and promote human rights regionally and internationally.
He also pointed out that it is time to work at the multilateral level, to share Bahrain's experiences and initiatives in the development and promotion of human rights as well as its national mechanisms and achievements in order to reach a long-term partnership to promote such initiatives and values internationally.
Al Doseri affirmed that the law and constitution of the Kingdom are based on respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms to contribute to the development of human rights in Bahrain. He added that this leads to achieving civilizational, economic, cultural and social development.
He also referred to the pioneering civilizational initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, most important of which is the promotion of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people regardless of their faith.
He stated that the approach of His Majesty the King has led to several achievements in the field of democracy, guaranteeing rights and freedoms, human, political, economic and social development in various fields, including education, health, communication, media and sustainable development.
The Assistant Foreign Minister noted that in line with the Government Action Plan for the Years 2015-2018 "owards Justice,. Security and Welfare of Community", and in line with its Economic Vision 2030, Bahrain is keen to promote and protect human rights in the context of sustainable development after achieving the Millennium Development Goals before they were due in 2015.
He said that the Kingdom has gained an advanced status among countries with high human development according to the United Nations Development Programme as part of its efforts to develop the living standards of its citizens and the services provided to them.
He referred to the periodic international reports submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain under the international agreement it joined, which reflects the Kingdom's commitment to cooperate with international mechanisms to create a distinguished partnership and promote the Bahraini experience to the world.
A film that highlighted the Kingdom’s achievements in the fielsd of human rights; including, women’s rights, child rights, combatting trafficking in persons, and rights of the disabled, as screened.
A meeting will be held with foreign ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom on September 4.
