The Bahraini Foreign Ministry decried on Tuesday the attack carried out by Houthi militants and supporters of former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Salh on the USS Mason, a guided-missile destroyer.
Also, it asserted the Houthi offensive might threaten international navigation and expose to danger trade movement in the strait of Bab el Mandeb.
In a statement, the Bahraini Foreign Ministry underlined that the Saudi-led coalition will continue efforts to support the legitimacy in Yemen until the Yemeni government, under President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, recaptures all territories seized by Houthis and pro-Saleh militants.
Furthermore, it called on Houthis to stop all practices that hinder efforts to restore security and peace across Yemen and work on reaching a political solution to the crisis in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2216, the Gulf Initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC).
“USS Mason detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period while in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship,” Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said early Monday.
“There were no injuries to our sailors and no damage to the ship,” he said.
