Canada has imposed sanctions on five Iranians accused of plotting to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said Tuesday. The new sanctions will place travel restrictions on the five Iranian nationals and ban any Canadian individual or entity from engaging in financial dealings with them. It will bring the total number of those targeted by Canada's sanctions against Iran to 279 entities and 47 individuals. "This foiled plot (assassination) is yet more proof of the threat posed by the current Iranian regime," Baird said. "Canada will continue to work with its international partners to pressure the regime to change its dangerous ways."
