Beijing - Arab Today

China is set to sign an agreement on Monday establishing diplomatic ties with former Taiwan ally Sao Tome and Principe, ABC news reported.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterpart from Sao Tome, Urbino Botelho, signed books at a ceremony in front of their flags in Beijing on Monday.
Wang said the re-establishment of relations would bring benefits to both countries and that they would hold exchanges in tourism, the media, and other areas.
Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada said on Thursday that breaking relations with Taiwan was the correct decision given China's importance as a strategic partner and the need to improve the lives of Sao Tomeans.
Most of the world does not formally recognize Taiwan as a condition of maintaining relations with China.
