Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary General Farhan Haq said UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will continue with the work that he is doing right now.
Haq was quoted as saying at a press briefing on Friday that “There’s been at least an extension allowing [de Mistura] to continue with the work that he’s doing right now, insofar as Mr. de Mistura does continue to serve as Special Envoy of the Secretary General at the pleasure of the Secretary General.
Asked whether there a specific deadline for the extension, Haq said “No. If there’s any change, we’ll let you know. But right now, he is doing the work particularly of the Geneva talks with the full confidence and support of the Secretary General.
De Mistura assumed his responsibilities as a UN special envoy for Syria in July 2014, replacing former envoy Lakhdar Brahimi
