Egypt backed the UNSC resolution on the conditions in Burundi, which was adopted yesterday in New York.
The resolution provides for the "deployment of a United Nations police contribution to increase the United Nations capacity to monitor the security situation, promote the respect of human rights and advance rule of law" in Burundi.
In a statement following the vote, Egypt's Permanent Representative to the UN Amr Aboul Atta said that Egypt welcomes the resolution, which came as a result of constructive consultations that reflect the keenness of the UNSC members on the situation in Burundi.
The resolution is base on the positive developments which took place over the past period, including efforts exerted by the Burundian government to improve conditions, he added.
Burundi has been in turmoil since President Pierre Nkurunziza announced plans last April to run for a third term, which he went on to win.
At least 400 people have been killed and 250,000 others have fled Burundi due to the unrest over the past year.
