Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati witnessed the inking of contracts with two foreign consultancy firms hired to study the impact of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The Ethiopian and Sudanese water resources ministers also attended the event.
The three states signed contracts with the two French companies "BRL" and "Artelia" as well as the UK-based law firm "Corbett" which was selected to manage the legal affairs of the tripartite committee.
The studies are meant to assess how the Ethiopian dam would affect downstream states; namely Egypt and Sudan. The studies would take about 11 months.
