European Union (EU) acknowledges and appreciates Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and for regional peace and stability.
“EU recognizes challenges faced by Pakistan and appreciates the way Pakistan has been responding to those
challenges,” EU’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan, Roland Kobia said this during a meeting with National Security Adviser, Lt Gen (Retd) Nasser Khan Janjua here on Monday.
He was heading a delegation which also included EU Ambassador to Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain. Matters pertaining to regional security situation with a particular reference to Afghanistan were discussed in detail.
The envoy expressed his commitment to advance European Union’s contribution to deliver lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and in region.
“European Union is aiming at bringing peace in Afghanistan by coordinating and consulting with all regional and international countries,” he said.
The envoy sought NSA’s opinion on issues of counter terrorism, military and intelligence cooperation and internal political peace process in Afghanistan.
Nasser Janjua explained security situation in Afghanistan at length and highlighted complexities of perpetual conflict in Afghanistan.
He briefed the role played and contributions made by Pakistan to fight menace of terrorism.
He sensitized the delegates over fragility of the region and reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment towards peace in Afghanistan and the region.
Nasser Janjua underscored that a cooperative framework was required to resolve conflict in Afghanistan and stressed the
need of a political solution to the conflict.
Both sides agreed that by means of progression, cooperation and economic interdependence, this region could be made more stable.
