Lusaka - Arab Today

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) and Chairman of FNC's Parliamentary Division, has met Margaret Mensah-Williams, Chairperson to the National Council of the Republic of Namibia, on the margins of the 134th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

The Chairperson to the National Council said the election of Dr. Al Qubaisi as speaker of the FNC represented a victory to the Arab and international women’s movement and sent a message that a woman is efficient and capable of leading parliamentary and political work.

The meeting explored the possibilities of joint co-operation between the two houses during IPU meetings and other international events concerning women, children, sustainable development, counter-terrorism and regional and international developments. They also discussed methods of sharing parliamentary experiences in a way that backs their common stances towards issues of mutual interest.

In her capacity as chairperson of the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians, Dr. Al Qubaisi also discussed arrangements and preparations for the 11th Meeting of Women Parliamentarians which the UAE will host at the end of 2016.
