Germany approved the withdrawal of its troops from the Turkish base of Incirlik on Wednesday, local media reported. Merkel's Cabinet made this decision after failed talks with Ankara to come to a resolution amid increasing bilateral tensions between the two countries. Turkey obstructed inspections at the base by German MPs, which served as one of the reasons for German troops' removal from Incirlik.
There is currently around 280 German troops and a few Tornado fighter jets located at the Turkish base.
Germany's military forces stationed in Turkey are mostly deployed for the surveillance missions in Syria.
In order for the withdrawal to be finalized, German parliament will have to approve Cabinet's decision
