Turkey does no longer trust Israel, Turkish President, Abdullah Gul, told the Munich-based newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung on Friday. 'I have no trust in Israel's government,' Gul was quoted as saying in the wake of a dramatic worsening of ties between Ankara and Tel Aviv. Turkey cut all diplomatic relations and froze military and trade ties with Israel the previous week over last year's killing of nine Turkish activists aboard a Gaza-bound ship meant to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population. Meanwhile, Gul, who is scheduled to arrive in Germany on Sunday for a four-day visit, acknowledged that secret talks between his country and Israel aimed at settling the conflict collapsed over Tel Aviv's last-minute change of mind. Earlier this week, Turkey's Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said Israel's lethal raid on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla was actually 'cause for war' but added his country showed 'patience' and refrained from taking any military action. There have been unconfirmed reports that Germany was also involved in trying to mediate in the deteriorating Turkish-Israel crisis. Berlin is the closest ally of the Zionist regime after the US.
