The Human Rights Council condemned in its 17th emergency session here today the situations of human rights in Syria with a vote of majority of 33 countries in favor, four against including Cuba, China, Russia and Ecuador, and Nine abstentions. The Council was briefed by UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, who said, "What the Syrian authorities have done to suppress the Syrian people is the worst violations in the world," noting that since mid-March, as many as 2,000 people have been killed in Syria, in addition to the thousands of people injured by live ammunition, as well as the detention of thousands of people.
