Preliminary results of the votes counting for legislative polls in five Indian states Thursday showed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won the election in the eastern state of West Bengal, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won in the northeast state of Assam.
The ADMK party has beaten incumbent DMK in the southern state Tamill Nadu, while the Left Front party has won in the southern state Kerala and the Congress carried the standard in the union territory of Pundecherry, according to local TV reports.
The counting of votes for recently held local elections in five Indian states of Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry began Thursday amid tight security, officials said.
India's election commission has made elaborate arrangements for providing online information of trends and results.
