The Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has won the membership of the United Nations Panel for External Auditors, which is a forum for external auditors for the various agencies of the United Nations.
The U.N. Panel for External Auditors is to give recommendations to the U.N. secretary general in improving the financial management system of the U.N. agencies.
BPK has taken part in the panel meeting from Nov. 16 to Nov 22 in the U.N. headquarters in New York with delegation headed by its chairman Harry Azhar Azis.
BPK and other members formulate and submit recommendations to the United Nations such as application of auditing standard, new accountancy standard (IPSAS), handling of frauds in implementing partners, policy of single audit and harmonization of financial reports.
BPK would gain from its membership in the panel as its competence and capacity would improve, Harry said .
"In addition it shows recognition of the role of BPK in improving global financial management system," he said in a statement received by ANTARA News here on Tuesday.
Head of the Public Relations and International Cooperation Bureau of BPK R. Yudi Ramdan Budiman said BPK was accepted member of the panel after it audited a U.N. body , the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) starting this year until 2018.
Yudi said the U.N. Panel for External Auditors is a forum of auditing agencies in the U.N. which meets every year to formulate recommendations to the United Nations.
The panel members include 11 auditing agencies from 11 countries auditing around 50 U.N. agencies.
"The BPK membership is permanent as long as it is active in auditing the U.N. agencies and has a strategic position as BPK would be involved in improving the performance of the U.N.," Yudi said.
Earlier , BPK was also already named as auditor for the IACA (International Anti Corruption Academy) together with counterpart from Austria and Russia with BPK as the chairman of the auditors.
