Iranian parliamentarians called on the United Nations Wednesday to immediately send delegations to Bahrain and Yemen to study human rights situations in those countries. In a statement read in the open session of Iran’s 290-member Majlis (Parliament) today, some 212 Mps condemned the ongoing brutalities against the innocent peoples in Bahrain and Yemen. The MPs urged the international body to “act based on its duty” to secure the rights of the civilians. Stressing that the current situations in Bahrain and Yemen have reached a “critical stage,” the Iranian MPs criticized the silence of western states towards the massacres of the peoples in those countries. “Silence of western states towards the brutal crack downs of peoples in Yemen and Bahrain has indicated that those states were not honest in their claims about being advocates of human rights,” said the Iranian MPs. Reiterating Tehran’s support for the defenseless peoples in Yemen and Bahrain, the MPs urged the UN to help restore the violated rights of peoples in those countries and stop the interferences of Saudi Arabia in their internal affairs.
