A warplane of the Iranian Army crashed on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Tibriz, the national media reported on Saturday. The pilot parachuted to safety shortly before the fighter jet crashed near Tibriz Airport. No casualties were reported in the accident, caused by technical fault, according to the Iranian media. The Iranian Army is currently carrying out a drill In the Tibriz region -- with employment of locally-made warplanes, F-4 and F-5 jet fighters. Elaborating in the interview with the Kuwaiti news agency, Ahmadinejad charged that Western powers have been campaigning against the nuclear plant because they have not benefitted financially from the venture. "They have repeatedly declared that the reactor poses hazards to the region," he said. "However, all necessary safety and security standards at it have been observed, and rest assured that we are equally concerned about safety of the people of Bushehr city, the Kuwaiti, the Qatari and Bahraini peoples, and the government does not discriminate among the brothers of the religion, Iranians or peoples of other nationality," the president assured the eminent Kuwaiti guests. Iran believes that its development will be also useful for other nations of the region, he said, expressing readiness to put Iran's resources at the disposal of the other Muslim nations.On arms stockpiles in the region, he charged that the big powers seek to create regional conflicts, with the illicit intention to trigger wars and be able to sell their weapons to the parties of strifes. On Libya, he called for intervention by the Muslim nations to try reach an understanding among the warring parties and prevent intervention by the West and the Nato, charging these powers of harboring colonial intentions in that country. He expressed readiness for coordination with Saudi Arabia, a regional nation of significant political weight. "If the countries of the region unite, the Zionist entity will not be able to continue killing the Palestinian, Lebanese and Egyptian peoples," he added. The president called on the Muslim nations to establish joint banks and invest their funds locally. On the international sanctions on Iran, Ahmadinejad said these curbs boosted the national development.
