A delegation from the Italian Carabinieri (military police force) explored the police legacy of Al Maqta'a Fort and its role as the ancient guardian of Abu Dhabi island during the 1950s.
During a visit to Al Maqta'a Fort, the delegation was introduced to the importance of the fort in the contemporary history of Abu Dhabi, which reflected the directives of the wise leadership to protect its heritage and culture, while holding on to the values of the nation and the achievements of its founding fathers in promoting safety and security in the community.
Major Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, General Supervisor of the Police Legacy Committee, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to strengthen the police relations and introduced their heritage, which reflected their history of benevolence, and their record in preserving the nation's achievements.
He said that the Al Maqta’a Fort situated next to the Al Maqta’a Bridge, which led into Abu Dhabi, highlighted the extended roots of Abu Dhabi, as well as the nobleness and legacy of its police back then, which was centralised to monitor, follow, alert and defend the emirate.
Considering the fort is one of the historic civilisational examples in the UAE, it is still standing high, demonstrating the legacy of the forefathers who lived on this good land and built it a long time ago.
The visiting delegation included Major Alvio Golota, Director of Studies and Training Department, and Major Massimo Marisca, Director of Antiquities Department in the Cultural Heritage Protection Police in the Italian Carabinieri.
Major Mohammed Al Matraf Al Jaberi, Member of Police Legacy Committee, and several Committee members in the Abu Dhabi Police received the Italian delegation. They explained to them the importance of Al Maqta’a Fort, in the past and present, and how it is being managed by the Abu Dhabi Police since its construction in the 1950s.
