Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki has said his country pins hope on a role to be played by Belgium with the European Union in pursuing support for Jordan to help it overcome economic challenges and deal with the repercussions of the presence of large numbers of Syrian refugees on the Jordanian territories.

The prime minister's statements came at a meeting with Queen Mathilde of Belgium currently on a visit to Amman.

They discussed the economic challenges facing Jordan as a result of the presence of 1.3 million refugees who make up 20 percent of the kingdom population.

The Queen, for her part, praised the role of Jordanian king Abdullah II in dealing with the region's crises and to establish security and stability in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Monday discussed bilateral relations with Queen Mathilde.

Queen Mathilde, who arrived in Amman on Sunday, commended the Kingdom’s role in serving Syrian refugees and hosting them, stressing the importance of having the international community shoulder its responsibilities in supporting Jordan, said Petra News Agency.

For his part, Judeh said that Jordan is not only providing a safe haven to Syrian refugees, but it also contributes to raising a generation of children awaiting to do their part in rebuilding their country after the crisis.
