Islamabad - Irna

Mutahida Qumi Movement (MQM) has demanded a judicial commission to investigate the target killings in Karachi. Judicial commission demanded to probe into Karachi violence MQM leader Farooq Sattar during his speech in the National Assembly said that the government was involved in Karachi violence. During the discussion on Karachi Farooq Sattar said the peace in Karachi was being intentionally destroyed. He also presented the list of 500 criminals to the NA. According to Sattar 1,500 people had fallen victim to target killing in the metropolis since 2007. Action without any discrimination can sort out the issue, added Farooq. He said that terrorists from the northern areas and local mafia in the city had joined hands. He demanded probe as to why the Rangers was not deployed on time in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town and Kutty Pahari. He alleged that the government was involved in the worsening law and order situation in Karachi and said it should stop the “state of civil war” in Karachi. Earlier the Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain, in a telephonic address to party workers, had said that the Pakistan Army be called to control the killings in the city. The Awami National Party, another stakeholder in the city, had suggested that the army be called for a month to control the situation.
