The Saudi delegation to the United Nations along with other international groups organized a forum on the sidelines of the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The forum, titled “Towards Humanitarianism without Borders,” was moderated by the Saudi Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Faisal Trad.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, attendees at the forum were briefed on the leading role the Kingdom is playing in aiding troubled societies around the world, as well as on the efforts of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid in this regard.
The forum also discussed the managing and organizational roles of the Kingdom in the field of humanitarianism, as well as its partnerships with international humanitarian organizations to provide assistance in conflict areas.
Aqeel Al-Ghamdi gave a presentation about the center’s ongoing programs in eight different countries from which about 18 million people benefited.
These programs include delivery of food and other basic aid to displaced people in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Anbar, of which 86,500 people benefited, as well as a program for Yemenis who escaped the Houthi aggression and are now in Somalia, benefiting 19,800 people directly and 30,000 people indirectly.
A presentation was also made about the center’s 24 shelter and food security programs in Yemen, which address the deteriorating living conditions and access to food in the war-torn country.
The programs aim to alleviate the suffering of families under the siege of Houthi militia, as well as to meet the needs of children and the elderly.
Among the center’s medical aid programs, undertaken in coordination with 40 local and international partners, 33 are in Yemen and Djibouti, benefiting more than 16 million people.
These programs include providing medicines and medical supplies, equipping hospitals and health centers, and transporting wounded Yemenis for treatment abroad.
