Cairo - Arab Today

Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed al Dairi urged the international community to support transition in Libya in the various political, economic and security spheres in order to avoid the reptition of the 2012-2014 scenario, which plunged the country into chaos.

In an interview with Le Monde Newspaper, Dairi hailed statements by Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his French counterpart Francois Hollande on Libya.

He also hailed Hollande's remarks in Cairo, during which he affirmed France's support to forming a national unity government and shedding a spotlight on the role that should be played by Khalifa Haftar in the Libyan national army.

Asked if the circumstances are now suitable for Tobruk council to give confidence to the national unity council, Dairi said that it is importance to give assurances from the presidency council, adding that ''our hope has become greater to attain a national consensus."

He, meanwhile, said that the Libyan national army is capable of confronting the threat of the Daesh terrorist group and Ansar al Sharia, adding that the Libyan army should be supplied with the necessary weapons and equipment to confront terrorism.

The international community should take tangible steps to dry out the fertile soil that breeds terrorism, he added.
