Cairo - Arab Today

Board Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the Middle East News Agency (MENA) Ali Hassan cautioned of the gravity of incitement and sectarian discourse under the cloak of the freedom of journalism.

Hassan made the remarks during a National Press Authority meeting held late Saturday. Board chairpersons and chief editors of national newspapers attended the get-together.

Hassan highlighted the importance of proceeding with supporting what he termed as "responsible" freedom of press, referring to TV announcers who focus on disappointing incidents in lieu of positive ones.

He said the state realized great achievements, especially at the economic level, citing the natural gas discoveries and the rise of hard currency reserves to dlrs 35 billion.

Hassan added that the Egyptian army ranking advanced to the 10th position at the international level.

Hassan said national media should honestly bring to limelight these achievements as well as underway project and spread the spirit of optimism among people.

He underlined the importance of spreading awareness among people to close ranks in the face of the challenges besetting the state.

He highlighted the key role played by the National Press Authority to buttress the freedom of "responsible" journalism at a time when traitors propagate lies in the Qatari channels about every promising thing in Egypt.

Hassan urged national media to blow the whistle on the conspiracies tailored by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani who sponsors terrorism and who has funded all crimes committed against Egyptian soldiers.

He said people should join hands in the face of such intrigues.

Hassan said MENA is ready to host meetings of press leaderships to proceed discussions.
