Positions of the Western negotiators on Russia-NATO cooperation about missile defense system in Europe became degraded, Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said. "We are not against NATO's desire to deploy its missile defense system, we are opposed NATO to the radius of their anti-missile systems which can cover the European part of Russia. We will never agree on such terms this is why we request for clear legally guarantees of non-direction of the systems against our interests," Rogozin told RIA Novosti. Russia and NATO agreed to cooperate on the so-called European missile defense system at the Lisbon summit in November 2010. NATO insists there should be two independent systems that exchange information, while Russia favors a joint system with full-scale interoperability. Rogozin said in May Russia would cooperate with NATO only on a joint European missile defense network project, but would not be part of a U.S. missile defense in Europe. He also said that Russia-NATO missile shield talks gave no results, while NATO said everything was fine. "It is not fine anyway from Russian point of view and our partners are not going to make any progress at the negotiations," he said, adding that current state of affairs about missile shield in Europe would be discussed at a meeting of Russian president administration on Monday.
