Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began meetings in Washington Tuesday ahead of a critical summit with US President Donald Trump, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Officials in both countries hope the meetings will clarify the new US administration’s policies in the Middle East.
Trump made lofty promises during his campaign, such as pledging to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to occupied East Jerusalem if he were elected, a move that would effectively recognize Israel’s claim to the holy city as its capital.
