No Kuwaitis harmed in Thai floods

The Kuwaiti Embassy in Thailand set up an emergency team which is following up on the latest developments as the country is swept by heavy floods, and the embassy can confirm no Kuwaiti has been harmed, Ambassador Abdelletif Al-Mawwash told KUNA on Thursday.The ambassador said he had visited hospitals where Kuwaitis had been receiving care to make sure their affairs are not complicated by the situation. He added he had reviewed these hospitals' emergency procedures and plans.Al-Mawwash urged citizens wishing to remain in the country for the Eid holidays to keep close watch on developments to react swiftly in case of threat to their safety.Thailand is currently facing a flooding disaster that claimed 320 lives, injured tens of thousands others, and destroyed private and public properties, devastated facilities, and shut down some railroads.The Thai government had today called all state authorities for an emergency meeting to discuss plans to prevent further damage by floods at the government headquarter, as water started flooding in in the are surrounding the building. Government agencies were concentrating on protecting the capital city, but it looks like some harsh decisions are straight ahead.This is the toughest bout of floods to hit the country in the last 50 years and so far, 2.4 million people are said to have been made homeless as water swallowed homes, farmland, and factories.
