Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yusuf Al Othaimeen on Friday welcomed a US decision to lift sanctions on Sudan, which have been imposed since 1997.
In a statement, Othaimeen described it as a "wise decision", saying the lifting of sanctions would contribute to peace, stability and economic growth in Sudan.
The Sudanese people suffered from the US unilateral sanctions and revoking them would help improve bilateral relations between Khartoum and Washington, he added.
Othaimeen called on the Sudanese and US sides to continue mutual dialogue.
