Commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, Gen. John R. Allen, met Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the US embassy said Friday. They discussed various topics of mutual interest and ways to improve regional security Gen. Allen, during his visit on Thursday and Friday, also met with U.S. Embassy staff and received updates on the U.S. security assistance mission to Pakistan, the US embassy spokesman said. Gen. Allen’s trip to Pakistan also included a visit to 11th Corps Headquarters in Peshawar for an operational update and discussions about security near the Pakistan/Afghanistan border, he said in a statement. This is Gen. Allen’s first visit to Pakistan as the NATO ISAF Commander. Official sources that Pakistan took up with the NATO commander the issue of attacks on its border check posts by Pakistani Taliban from Afghan territory. The army says that Pakistani Taliban who fled to Afghanistan as the result of major military operations are now operating from Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nuristan provinces.
