special correspondent Ihsen Turki) - "Tunisia could be a model for several countries of the region if it managed to achieve the objectives of last January 14 revolution," affirmed Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi at a series of talks he had on Wednesday in Washington with US congress members. Tunisia, which relies first on its human resources, is nevertheless in need of support from its friends and partners including the United States, expected to enable Tunisian youths who want to do so, to study in this country and to provide them with opportunities of training in special fields with high employability in Tunisia such as the sector of technology, he said. The PM went on saying that Tunisia hoped for support from brotherly and friendly states to finance the social and economic plan worked out by the Interim Government and submitted to the G8. The PM conferred notably with Mr. John Boehner, House Speaker, Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leader representative and Mrs. Kay Granger, Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, that oversees foreign aid. The US officials expressed for their part consideration for Mr. Caied Essebsi for accepting to serve as Prime Minister after the events of last January 14, at a time when the country was living through a difficult stage, and admiration for this revolution and its noble objectives. After outpointing that Tunisia is now the focal point of the whole world , the congress members expressed readiness to lend Tunisia a hand to allow it to meet the current requirements . The PM is expected to meet today the US secretary of state and will be received tomorrow by president Barack Obama.
