The Indonesian Police have identified two perpetrators of the suicide bomb attack near the Kampung Melayu bus terminal in East Jakarta on Wednesday night.
"The first perpetrator at the scene of attack was identified as Ihwan, and the second perpetrator was identified as Ahmad Sukri," Chief of the General Information Division of the Indonesian Police Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul said at the Indonesian Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
However, the terrorist cell that they belonged to and the motive behind the suicide bomb attack were still unknown.
On Wednesday night (May 24), two suicide bombs exploded near the bus terminal, with the first blast occurring at 09.00 p.m. in front of public toilet and the second blast at 09.05 p.m. near a bus stop which is 10 meters away from the first blast
The two suicide bombers were killed at the scene.
The attack also killed three police officers and injured 11 people, including five police officers, two female university students, and drivers of public vehicles.
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) strongly condemned the attack.
"The perpetrators, whoever they are, have lost their humanitarian values. This is indeed a very cruel and saddening humanitarian tragedy," Zainut Tauhid Saadi, deputy chairman of MUI, stated here on Thursday.
The latest incident indicates that terrorism still exists in Indonesia and every party, particularly security officers, religious prominent figures, and the community, should pay serious attention to eradicate it, as terrorism is the enemy of the state, he noted. (*)
