President Dr Arif Alvi Tuesday stressed strict enforcement of helmet-wearing law for motorcyclists to save thousands of lives claimed in road accidents every year.
“Head injuries are frequently fatal. We must implement ‘wearing of helmets law’,” he said in his tweet.
The president said head trauma was the most common injury in road accidents and emphasized on making helmets affordable for the public.
Dr Alvi also shared a news story of a national daily based on the data compiled by Rescue 1122 which showed that in 2018, bike-related incidents constituted an overwhelming majority of road traffic accidents in Punjab.
The statistics revealed that around 241,549 accidents in Punjab were reported this year, of which 5,408 (35.41 percent) received serious injuries and sustained head trauma.
