President Joko Widodo lays wreath at grave of Kemal Ataturk

President Joko Widodo laid a wreath of red and white flowers at the grave of the founder and first President of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Anitkabir, also known as the mausoleum of Ataturk.

President Widodo and First Lady Iriana arrived at the Ataturk Mausoleum Complex in Ankara on Thursday at around 9 a.m. local time.

President Widodo was guarded by the Turkish special troops while laying the wreath at the tomb of the founder. 

The president, accompanied by his entourage, including ministers, observed a moment of silence at the Ataturk Mausoleum.

Furthermore, the president is scheduled to pray at the Kocatepe Mosque, the biggest in Ankara City.

Widodo is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Widodo will discuss economic developments and security cooperation with his Turkish counterpart Erdogan during a state visit to Turkey. 

"Eight agendas will be discussed on Thursday by the president during his visit to Ankara. The president will arrive in Ankara on Wednesday evening," Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi had earlier noted.

According to Marsudi, Widodo will enhance cooperation in the field of economic development by inaugurating the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

Indonesia and Turkey will also develop cooperation in the strategic industry sector.

Additionally, Widodo will discuss cooperation in the field of counterterrorism with Erdogan.(*)
