Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday said provision of basic facilities like education, health, creation of employment opportunities were priorities of the government.
The prime minister was talking to two separate delegations of the students belonging to Sindh Madressatul Islam, government schools Lower Topa, Lawrence College, Silkhatar and Islamabad Model School for Girls that called on him at Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister said education held the key to development of society and it was only through education that the youth could be equipped with tool to take on challenges of life and contribute, according to their potential towards development of society.
The interaction was part of the PM’s Youth Contact Programme under which students from different educational institutes were being invited to the PM office and given a briefing about the functioning of country’s top offices.
The prime minister also emphasized upon uniformity in the curriculum for promoting and raising education standards across the country. After 18th amendment, the subject of education was devolved to provinces, however, the federal government was providing every possible support to the education sector, he added.
Responding to a question posed by a student, the prime minister said the continuity of democratic system was essential for development and progress of the country.
He advised the students to work hard by equipping themselves with the best education for the national development and prosperity as the talented youth were the future of Pakistan and a hope for achievement of national prosperity.
He informed the students about the steps taken by his government for the prosperity of the countrymen through a string of development projects and for raising the living standards of the people, expressing the hope that those would be harbinger of positive change in the life of common man.
To another question, the prime minister said under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) complete attention was being paid to the energy, road infrastructure and industrial sector whereas under CPEC projects, special measures had been taken for environmental protection.
Responding to another query, he said in the democratic societies, governments were elected by the people through ballot and stressed that the power of voting should be exercised carefully and keeping in view larger national interests.
Vice Chancellor Sindh Madressatul Islam Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh, on the occasion, gave a briefing and said the institute also served as alma mater of Quaid- e-Azam Muhmmad Ali Jinnah during 1887. The Quaid had also donated a large part of his property for the institute so that its mission could continue.
He apprised that a youth leadership programme had also been initiated by the institute. Later, the students also visited different sections of the PM office where they were briefed about their specific functioning.
