"Palestine is the most important issue of the Muslim world and the parliaments of the Islamic countries can play a key role in restoring the rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation through cooperation with each other," Larijani said in a meeting with the Speaker of Kuwait's National Assembly (parliament) Jassem Al-Khorafi here in Tehran on Saturday evening. Khorafi is in Tehran to take part in the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada which kicked off in Tehran on Saturday. Pointing to the importance of the conference, Larijani called for stronger support for the Palestinian Intifada (uprising). As regards the bilateral ties, Larijani reiterated the importance of parliamentary relations for expanding and developing friendly ties between the two states in all the different fields. Khorafi, too, lauded the close relations between the two states, and called the ties between Iran and Kuwait as "historical". He also thanked Iran for hosting the pro-Palestine conference, saying that the Tehran meeting is "the only conference which discusses the Palestinian issue comprehensively". The 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada started work in Tehran with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in attendance. According to the secretary of the conference, parliamentary delegations from Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Paraguay, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Comoros, Malawi, Egypt, Oman, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Malaysia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Sudan, Bolivia, Caucasus, Hungary, Colombia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan have come to Tehran to attend the meeting. Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stressed the key role of Islamic parliaments in restoring the rights of the Palestinian nation.
