Tehran - Fars

The Yemeni regime supporters attacked an all-female street celebration of the Nobel Peace prize win of Tawakkul Karman and wounded 40 women in Taez, the country's second largest city. The women were attacked on Sunday evening in the city of Taez as they marched in support of Karman, the first Arab woman to win the prestigious award. "We were attacked by regime thugs with empty bottles and stones," an organizer said on Monday on condition of anonymity. Medical officials confirmed the injuries. The Nobel Prize Committee awarded Karman the 2011 Peace Prize recognizing her role in the months of peaceful protests in Yemen that have called for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down after 33 years in power in Sana'a.The prize was shared with two Liberian women, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and activist Leymah Gbowee. In a separate incident early on Monday, three people were wounded in clashes between loyalist security forces and armed tribesmen opposed to Saleh in the central Rawdah neighborhood of Taez, medical officials said. Taez, some 270 kilometers (170 miles) Southwest of the capital Sana'a, has been a focal point of tension since protests against Saleh erupted in January. Earlier, a prominent Yemeni politician had blamed Arab states, specially Saudi Arabia, for the worsening political conditions in his country, saying that their interference has complicated the situation on the ground. Yemen Democracy party's politburo Chief Mohammad Hossein al-Ebad told FNA last month that the revolution in Yemen has reached a complicated stage. "The interference of a number of Arab states has complicated the equation," Ebad said, adding, "Saudi Arabia's meddling has complicated the situation in Yemen." "Saudi Arabia is using every possible means in Yemen" to crackdown on popular protests, he stated, and underlined that the Yemeni revolution will embrace victory if Saudi Arabia gives up its meddling and financial support for the ruling regime. Different world countries have condemned the Saudi-backed Yemeni security forces' brutal crackdown on anti-government protesters. The Yemeni opposition said Washington and Riyadh are responsible for the current stalemate in the country, stressing that the US and Saudi Arabia have blocked the path of the Yemeni revolutionary forces to victory. A few days earlier, the Yemeni oppositions unveiled that Saudi Arabia has sent armored vehicles and other military aids to Yemen to help the forces loyal to the country's fugitive dictator, Ali Abdullah Saleh, suppress the popular uprising in the Arab country. This is the second time that the Saudi monarchy is using the military as a way to suppress people's revolutions against its autocratic allies in the region. Only recently, Saudi tanks were dispatched to the Bahraini capital, Manama, aiding the Al-Khalifa regime to suppress protesting people.
