Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has met with his counterparts from Thailand and Namibia, as well as a number of other senior foreign officials. Salehi held meetings with Namibian Foreign Minister Utoni Daniel Nujoma and Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Towichakchaikun on the sidelines of the 66th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, IRNA reported. During the meeting with the Thai official, the Iranian foreign minister voiced Tehran's interest in promoting the level of relations with Bangkok in all areas, particularly in the political, economic, trade, cultural, and scientific spheres. The two praised the amicability of bilateral relations, mentioning exchange of delegations and regular consultations as potential means of enhancement of cooperation between the two sides. Meeting with his Namibian counterpart, the senior Iranian official called for the establishment of a joint economic-cooperation commission, describing the measure as a proper basis for the regulation and furthering of the Tehran-Windhoek economic cooperation. Nujoma welcomed the offer and urged both countries to enhance the level of their ties, especially in the areas concerning trade, agriculture, and technology. Salehi also held separate meetings with Nigerian Foreign Minister Olugbenga Ashiru, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali Ahmed Karti, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov, and Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
