The U.N. Security Council strongly condemned North Korea's latest ballistic-missile launch, demanding that the Asian country immediately cease further actions in violation of the U.N. relevant resolutions and comply fully with its obligations under these resolutions.
The council expressed in a statement issued Thursday its utmost concern over Pyongyang's "highly destabilizing behavior and flagrant and provocative defiance" of the Security Council by conducting the missile launch.
The 15-member body said it "would continue to closely monitor the situation and take further significant measures, including sanctions, in line with the Council's previously expressed determination." The members of the Security Council highlighted the need of North Korea to immediately show "sincere commitment to denuclearization and stressed the importance of working to reduce tensions in the Korean Peninsula and beyond."
