Tehran - Irna

The Fifth International Conference on the Palestinian Intifada kicked off in Tehran, indicating Iran's unshakable support for the Palestinian cause. Head of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Friday that the conference would strengthen support for the Palestinian cause. He added that the Intifada conference would complement the Islamic Awakening conference which was held on September 17-18 in Tehran and which was attended by 700 scholars from 80 countries. This year's Intifada conference has chosen “Palestine, Homeland of Palestinians” as its motto to emphasize that Palestine in the only homeland of Palestinians. The conference is held according to a law passed on May 9, 1990 by the Majlis requiring the Iranian government to organize such conferences in support of the Palestinian Intifada. Secretary-General of the conference Hossein Sheikholeslam said 16 parliament speakers from Indonesia, Malawi, Zanzibar, Algeria, Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Comoros, Kuwait, Syria, Mauritania, Paraguay, and Afghanistan (three participants) as well as eight deputy speakers have indicated readiness to attend the summit. He added that more than 70 countries are sending parliamentary delegations in addition to independent figures from 100 countries.
