Timor Leste has encouraged constructive dialogs among member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement to achieve common goals and face global challenges, a minister said.
"Constructive dialogs among members (of NAM) to achieve common goals is a key to face various challenges," Timor Leste Foreign Affairs Minister Zacarias Albano da Costa said here Thursday in a press statement issued during the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement being held here, May 23-27, 2011.
The dialogs must be based on a vision of common responsibility and respect to each country, he said.
The condition 50 years ago when the NAM was established was different from now. At that time, NAM was formed to response to the existence of the Western Block and the Eastern Block. Meanwhile, the global challenges currently have demanded NAM to revitalize itself.
The challenges include climate change, transnational crimes, terrorism, human trafficking and financial as well as economic crises.
"The power of NAM is from the diversity of its member countries, from Africa to Asia, from America to the Pacific," he said.
Through its position as united grouping, NAM can use its collective voice to improve the condition of the people and create a better world, he said.
The foreign affairs minister of Timor Leste also stated that his country has been supporting the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and independence as stated in the NAM Summit in 2009.
