New Delhi - Ria Novosti

Islamabad and Washington have agreed to more than halve the number of U.S. troops on Pakistani territory, DoonNews TV channel reported on Wednesday. About 300 U.S. military personnel serve in Pakistan, including instructors for special counter-terrorist operations, the channel reported. The presence of U.S. troops on Pakistani territory is unpopular among many Pakistanis. The opposition has accused the government of allowing Islamabad to become a "servant of the United States". Relations between the two states deteriorated after al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2 in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, north of the capital Islamabad, during a raid by U.S. Navy Special Forces. Pakistan says it was not notified of the operation beforehand.
