The Russian Russian General Staff said that the operations of the US-led coalition have contributed to strengthening ISIS terrorists near Palmyra and Deir Ezzor.

In a press conference, chief of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy said that while the US-led international coalition claims that its aim is to fight against international terrorism, the coalition carries out strikes against Syrian forces, which allow ISIS terrorists to get out of encirclement areas, thus strengthening terrorist units near Palmyra and Deir Ezzor.

Rudskoy said that Russia expects the coalition to focus on fighting terrorist organization, particularly ISIS, in a precise manner.

He also noted that after signing the memorandum on de-escalation zones, the situation on the ground has changed radically, as the memorandum allowed for focusing on destroying ISIS and rebuilding what was destroyed by the war as civilians return to areas liberated from terrorists.
