Kabul - UPI

Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed to resume talks on Afghanistan's reconciliation process with the Taliban, President Hamid Karzai said. Karzai, who held talks with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf Thursday, said an Afghan high council delegation would visit Pakistan in the near future to discuss the reconciliation process with the militants group, Afghanistan's Khaama Press reported. Pakistan's participation in the effort is seen as important because some of the militant groups are suspected of having sanctuaries there. Speaking at a news conference with Ashraf, Karzai said the two discussed the fight against terrorism and improvement of bilateral relations along with improvement of regional security. Ashraf was making his first trip to Afghanistan after becoming prime minister last month. His Kabul visit coincided with that British Prime Minister David Cameron, who also joined the talks.
